Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Sunday.
Situation: Cold southerlies continue to affect many places today. Tomorrow the flow should ease as a low east of the country moves slowly away and a weak cold front brushes the far south. Southeasterlies die out over the North Island Friday as a ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South Island from the west. The ridge should drift further north Saturday as a trough approaches southwestern New Zealand late in the day. The trough is likely to spread onto most areas Sunday.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Mainly fine today and tomorrow apart from a few scattered showers, chiefly north of Auckland. Fine Friday an Saturday with morning frosts. Rain developing later Sunday.
TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Showery and cold today with further snow to the central mountains and main ranges in the south. Showers becoming few and far between tomorrow with snow levels rising and fine periods increasing. Mainly fine Friday and Saturday with overnight frosts. Rain developing Sunday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Further cold showery weather today with snow about the ranges. Tomorrow showers becoming fewer and a few fine spells likely. Remaining showers clearing from Gisborne Friday elsewhere gradually clearing. Mainly fine over the weekend but rain is likely late Sunday about Wairarapa.
WELLINGTON: Continuing cold and showery thru to tomorrow afternoon then a few fine breaks appearing. Showers about the eastern hills Friday, elsewhere mainly fine but still cold. Fine and frosty Saturday. Rain developing later Sunday.
NELSON: Fine and frosty thru to Saturday then an increase in cloud. Rain on Sunday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mostly fine and frosty but overnight drizzle developing about the fiords. Tomorrow cloudy periods with some rain for a time south of the glaciers. Clearing early Friday then fine. For Saturday fine and frosty about Buller and much of Westland, elsewhere patchy rain developing. Rain affecting all areas Sunday then slowly clearing from the south.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Mainly fine inland but about the coast continuing showery until early tomorrow then skies breaking. Mainly fine Friday and Saturday with overnight frosts. Rain spreading from the south during Sunday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mainly fine and frosty. Brief showers about the south coast tomorrow. Fine frosty weather everywhere Friday. On Saturday cloud increasing with rain after dark to western places. Colder Sunday with showery southerlies and snow to the ranges.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain today and much of tomorrow. Friday sees cloudy skies with light showers then similar conditions expected over the weekend.
