The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Saturday.
Situation: A very cold southerly flow covers the country today and should weaken tomorrow. On Thursday a ridge moves
onto the South Island while the southeast flow remains over the North Island. Friday sees the ridge covering the whole
country. On Saturday a northwest flow becomes established over the South Island while the ridge remains over the North
Island.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TARANAKI: Showers retreating to the eastern
ranges today with only the odd shower further west. Fine frosty weather likely for the remainder of the period.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: Becoming fine in most areas today. The odd shower possible in the east tomorrow then fine frosty
weather for the remainder of the period.
TAIHAPE, TAUPO, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: a few further showers times today with snow about the eastern ranges. Becoming
fine tomorrow and mostly fine for the remainder of the period but some cloud developing on Saturday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Cold and showery today with snow about the western ranges. Showers clearing tomorrow
but persisting about Gisborne. Becoming fine everywhere on Thursday. Fine and frosty weather Friday and Saturday.
WELLINGTON: Cold and showery today with strong southerly winds. Showers clearing tomorrow but remaining cold. Fine and
frosty on Thursday and Friday. Cloud increasing Saturday with northwesterly winds developing.
NELSON: Fine weather for much of the period but cold with overnight frosts likely. Some high cloud developing Saturday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Fine frosty weather from today through to Thursday. Cloud increasing Friday with some
late rain developing south of the Glaciers. Rain spreading everywhere on Saturday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Showers and cold southerly winds continuing today with snow down to 400 metres in the east.
Showers clearing tomorrow and becoming fine. Fine frosty weather for the remainder of the period but some high cloud
developing on Saturday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Becoming fine and frosty inland today but one or two showers persisting about the coast. Fine and
frosty everywhere tomorrow through Friday. High cloud increasing Saturday with rain developing in the west and
northwesterly winds becoming gusty.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showery today and tomorrow with cold southerly winds. Showers clearing on Thursday and becoming fine on
Friday. Mainly fine Saturday with northwesterly winds developing.
