Short Forecast from Weather Workshop valid to midnight tomorrow:
In the north and west of the North Island from Northland to Manawatu, also for Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Showers at times. Some hail likely from this evening and snow lowering to 900 metres about the central plateau which includes the Desert Road. Showers becoming confined to the central plateau tomorrow with only the odd shower elsewhere.
For Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Cold southwesterlies and showers spreading north today. Snow lowering about the ranges from tonight. Cold and showery tomorrow with further snow about the ranges.
In Wellington and Wairarapa: Showers becoming widespread later today with snow likely to 500 metres tonight. That includes the Rimutaka Hill Road. Strong cold southerlies tomorrow with wintry showers.
For Nelson: Mainly fine weather but showers persisting about the eastern ranges. One or two showers likely tomorrow.
The South Island west coast: Mostly fine and frosty.
For Marlborough and Canterbury: Showers becoming widespread from this afternoon with some sleet and snow lowering to 200 metres in the east tonight. Further wintry showers tomorrow.
In Otago and Southland: Wintry showers with sleet and snow to low levels. Tomorrow, wintry showers slowly clearing from the south.
Chatham Islands: Showers.
