The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Thursday.
Situation: A weakening ridge of high pressure lies over the North Island today as a cold front moves onto the South
Island. Tomorrow the front crosses the North Island as a cold wintry outbreak spreads up the South Island. Showery
conditions are likely to persist is many places Tuesday and Wednesday with a south to southeast flow. On Thursday a
ridge moves onto the South Island while the southeast flow remains over the North Island.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TARANAKI: Mainly fine today but a few light
showers developing after dark. Tomorrow, showery and becoming colder. Cold showery conditions continuing Tuesday.
Showers ease on Wednesday and becoming mainly fine on Thursday apart from a few cloudy periods.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: Fine today. Showers developing later tomorrow. Showery and cold on Tuesday. On Wednesday showers
retreat to eastern Bay of Plenty and becoming mainly fine elsewhere. Mainly fine on Thursday apart from a few cloudy
periods.
TAIHAPE, TAUPO, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloud increasing today with a few light showers developing after dark. Showery
and becoming colder tomorrow with snow to the central mountains later. Showery and cold on Tuesday and Wednesday with
snow to the high country. Showers clearing on Thursday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Fine today. A few showers developing in Wairarapa overnight. Turning colder tomorrow
with showers in most areas and snow to the main ranges at night. For Tuesday and Wednesday, continuing cold and showery
with snow about the ranges. Further showers on Thursday.
WELLINGTON: Cloud increasing later today with a few light showers developing tonight. Colder tomorrow with showers and
southerlies. Tuesday and Wednesday sees wintry southerlies with snow to low levels about the hills. Winds may reach gale
in exposed places. Showers easing on Thursday.
NELSON: Mainly fine today. Showers developing tonight. Further showers tomorrow. Expect snow showers to the ranges
Tuesday but elsewhere becoming fine. Mainly fine but cold Wednesday and Thursday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Mainly fine at first. Showers and southwesterlies spread north this evening. Colder tomorrow
with showers and snow to the ranges. Much colder from Tuesday with wintry showers and snow to low levels. Showers easing
Wednesday but remaining cold. Fine and frosty inland on Thursday. About the coast, cloud and remaining showers clearing.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A period of rain working north today and turning colder. Showery tomorrow with snow to
the Alps and Fiordland mountains. Becoming fine and frosty on Tuesday and remaining fine through till Thursday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain developing today then breaking to showers. Becoming much colder after dark with snow to the
ranges. Tomorrow, snow to low levels with showers and sleet about the coast along with cold southerlies. Showers
gradually clearing Tuesday. Mainly fine and very frosty Wednesday and Thursday.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few showers today. Remaining showery tomorrow with colder southerlies developing. Remaining showery
and cold from Tuesday until Thursday with southeast winds.
