Weather Workshop Five Day Forecast

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Monday.
Situation: A weak ridge covers much of the country today while a low to the northwest of New Zealand spreads a rain band onto the far north. The low slowly drifts south during the weekend and becomes more complex with a northeasterly flow covering the country. On Monday the low passes to the south of the country and turns the flow westerly.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND and COROMANDEL PENINSULA: High cloud thickening today with outbreaks of rain in Northland slowly spreading south. Rain at times tomorrow with gusty northeasterlies. Further rain or showers over the weekend with winds tending northwesterly on Sunday. Showery Monday with gusty westerlies.
BAY of PLENTY, ROTORUA, WAIKATO and WAITOMO: High cloud increasing today but remaining dry. Tomorrow scattered rain developing becoming persistent about Bay of Plenty/Rotorua later with freshening northeasterlies. Rain at times Saturday then showery on Sunday with winds turning northwest. Further showers on Monday.
TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: High cloud increasing today. A few scattered falls of rain tomorrow north of the central mountains otherwise dry. Rain or showers affecting most places during the weekend with further showers on Monday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: High cloud increasing today with possible light rain about northern Gisborne tonight. Outbreaks of rain about Gisborne and Hawkes Bay tomorrow but remaining mostly dry further south. Rain in most places Saturday. Sunday sees showers about the main ranges but becoming dry elsewhere. High cloud increasing Monday.
WELLINGTON: Mostly cloudy skies today and tomorrow but remaining dry. Patchy rain developing Saturday becoming more persistent on Sunday. Showers and gusty northwesterly winds on Monday.
NELSON: Mainly fine today with cloud increasing tomorrow. Northeasterly rain expected Saturday and Sunday. Rain clearing Monday and becoming mostly fine.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mainly fine today and tomorrow. Cloudy Saturday and Sunday with some patchy rain north of Westport. Widespread rain Monday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Mainly fine today and tomorrow but cloudy periods in the east with a few overnight drizzle patches. Scattered rain in most places Saturday and Sunday. Showers and southwesterly wind spread north on Monday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mostly fine today and tomorrow but a few cloudy periods about the coast. High cloud increasing Saturday with some rain on Sunday. Showers and southwesterlies on Monday.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few showers today then becoming mostly fine tomorrow. Cloudy and dry Saturday. Rain likely Sunday with strengthening northeast winds. Further rain on Monday.
