The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Sunday.
Situation: A ridge of high pressure should weaken over the country tomorrows a depression east of New South Wales
becomes more complex. Friday sees the ridge departing east as the low moves slowly into the central Tasman Sea, its
extensive rain bearing cloud sheet spreading down onto the North Island. Over the coming weekend numerous frontal bands
are expected to affect the country with the low drifting little from its central Tasman position.
NORTHLAND and AUCKLAND: Cloudy today with a few light showers. Tomorrow a few more showers about Auckland but over
Northland rain slowly spreading south. Rain at times Friday with gusty northeasterlies. Further rain or showers over the
weekend. Northwesterlies from Saturday onwards.
COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO and WAITOMO: Mainly fine today. Tomorrow cloud increasing but remaining dry. During Friday
scattered rain in the west spreading to Bay of Plenty/Rotorua later with freshening northeasterlies. Rain at times
Saturday then showery on Sunday, winds from the northwest.
TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Fine apart from cloudy periods today but more extensive
high cloud tomorrow. A few scattered falls of rain Friday north of the central mountains otherwise dry. Rain or showers
affecting most places over the weekend.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Today and tomorrow mostly fine.Areas of high cloud Friday with possible light rain
about northern Gisborne at night. Rain in most places Saturday. Sunday sees showers about the main ranges, elsewhere
fine periods expected.
WELLINGTON: Mostly fine today and tomorrow. Cloudy and dry Friday. The weekend sees rain or showers at times.
NELSON: Generally fine today and tomorrow then cloud increasing Friday. Northeasterly rain expected Saturday then
showers and fine periods Sunday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A few light showers in the south of Fiordland otherwise mix of cloudy and fine spells
thru until the end of tomorrow. Cloudy but dry everywhere Friday. Rain expected over much of the weekend with northeast
winds.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Fine today and tomorrow. Coastal cloud about Banks Peninsula Friday, mainly fine elsewhere.
Scattered rain in most places Saturday and Sunday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A few light showers in the south of Fiordland otherwise mix of cloudy and fine spells
thru until the end of tomorrow. Cloudy but dry everywhere Friday. Rain expected over much of the weekend with northeast
winds.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mostly fine inland today and tomorrow but showers about Foveaux Strait spreading to Otago Peninsula
at times. Mainly fine everywhere Friday. Cloudy at the weekend, outbreaks of rain likely from later Saturday.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few showers today and tomorrow then becoming mostly fine on Friday. Cloudy and dry Saturday. Rain
likely Sunday with strengthening northeast winds.
