The Situation: An anticyclone centred over the eastern Tasman
Sea is drifting northeast and extends a ridge towards northern
and central areas of the country. A weak cold front is expected
to affect southern and eastern parts of the South Island today
before moving out toward the Chatham Islands. A new high cell
should spread onto the far south later today.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA,
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI,
MANAWATU, GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY, WAIRARAPA, WELLINGTON, NELSON and
MARLBOROUGH: Continuing fine again in most places with frosts this
morning south of Auckland. Also a few early fog patches. The odd
light shower at first about eastern Northland. Expect cloudy areas
today in the west from Taranaki to Wellington. Generally light
winds but breezy northerlies about Cook Strait.
CANTERBURY: Fine and frosty for much of the day with light winds
inland and northeasterlies about the coast. A southwest change may
spread cloud and light showers to places south of Banks Peninsula
this evening.
BULLER and WESTLAND: Cloudy with drizzle patches developing south
of Hokitika. Light breezes.
FIORDLAND: Rain at times with west to southwest winds.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloud increasing with patchy rain spreading to
most places for a time. Westerlies turning southwest from afternoon.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy skies. A few light showers turning to rain
this afternoon. Westerlies turning southwest towards evening.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Mainly fine over much of the North Island
but cloudy at times in the west from Taranaki south and about the
