The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Sunday.
Situation: A cold front is expected to sweep northeastwards over the South Island this evening and overnight then
rapidly cross North Island areas tomorrow. A ridge should then spread onto southern New Zealand from an anticyclone over
the central Tasman Sea. The high is expected to drift slowly east to cover most of the country by Saturday. Sunday sees
a cold front approaching the far south as the anticyclone persists in the north.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI,TAUPO, TARANAKI and TAIHAPE: Cloudy today with a
few light showers, showers more frequent and widespread from tomorrow afternoon and evening. Friday sees cloudy periods
from Northland to Coromandel Peninsula with light showers persisting in the east, elsewhere mostly fine conditions with
frosts from Auckland south. Fine Saturday and Sunday in most places again but Northland and Auckland stays cloudy with
light showers likely.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: Mainly fine today then showers for a time later tomorrow. Becoming fine Friday. The weekend sees
mostly fine conditions with overnight frosts.
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloudy today with a few light showers then a period of more widespread showers for a time
tomorrow. Clearing skies Friday then mainly fine over the weekend.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Mostly fine today, brief showers in most places tomorrow as southwesterlies spread
north in the afternoon and evening. Cloudy periods Friday, remaining showers clearing from Gisborne. Mainly fine over
the weekend.
WELLINGTON: Cloudy periods today with northerlies. Tomorrow showers developing with a southerly change. On Friday
becoming fine and fine again Saturday. Cloud increasing Sunday with northerlies returning.
NELSON: Cloudy at times today. A period of brief showers tomorrow morning then skies clearing towards evening. Mainly
fine and frosty after that but cloud increasing late in the weekend.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Dry today with high cloud. Showers spreading north overnight with snow to the main divide
then becoming fine from the south during tomorrow. A period of coastal showers possible during Friday otherwise fine and
frosty thru' until Saturday. High cloud increasing Sunday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain affecting most areas today. A clearance spreading north tomorrow but about the
southern fiords showers persisting. Friday sees a mix of fine and cloudy conditions. On Saturday cloudy periods south of
the glaciers with late patchy rain to the fiords, elsewhere fine. During Sunday, rain working as far north as central
Westland, elsewhere cloudy and dry.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain this afternoon and evening then breaking to showers early tomorrow with brief snow to 700
metres. Showers becoming confined to coastal places later with clearing skies inland. Fine and frosty inland Friday with
coastal showers dying out then fine frosty weather everywhere Saturday. Cloud increasing Sunday with rain becoming
widespread.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy today with a few light showers. Tomorrow Showers more frequent with cold southwesterlies.
Further showers Friday then during Saturday showers becoming few and far between and winds easing. Cloudy westerlies
expected on Sunday.
