The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Saturday.
Situation: A weak cold front should cross much of the South Island today then move eastward towards the Chatham Islands.
An anticyclone over the north Tasman Sea extends a ridge onto northern New Zealand. The ridge is expected to persist
tomorrow as a second more active cold front advances northwards over the South Island. During Thursday remains of the
front should cross the North Island as a ridge of high pressure spreads onto southern areas from a new high in the south
Tasman Sea. The high is likely to slowly move onto the country Friday and Saturday.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TAUPO: Generally cloudy today and tomorrow
with a few light showers, chiefly in the west. More widespread showers Thursday. Friday sees cloudy periods from
Northland to Coromandel Peninsula with light showers persisting in the east, elsewhere mostly fine conditions. Fine
Saturday in most places but again Northland and Auckland stays cloudy with light showers likely.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: Mainly fine today then a few brief showers tomorrow. Further, more widespread showers Thursday
then clearing on Friday. Fine Saturday.
TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloudy today and much of tomorrow with light showers at times. A period of
rain Thursday then a clearance spreading from the south. Fine Friday apart from light showers persisting on the main
eastern ranges. Fine everywhere Saturday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Fine in most places today. Showers about Wairarapa overnight may spread further
north for a time otherwise remaining fine. Thursday sees showers becoming widespread as southwesterlies spread north. On
Friday clearing about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay but further north cloud and the odd shower remaining. Mostly fine
everywhere Saturday.
WELLINGTON: Clouding in later today. A few showers overnight then again from later tomorrow. Showers clearing Thursday.
Mainly fine after that.
NELSON: Today fine apart from cloudy periods then showers later tomorrow. Showers clearing early Thursday then fine and
frosty.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Brief showers working north today then a clearance overnight. Further showers spreading from
the south again later tomorrow. Remaining coastal showers clearing early Thursday , elsewhere fine and frosty. A period
of coastal showers possible during Friday otherwise fine and frosty thru' until Saturday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: About Fiordland showers becoming confined to the south coast today, further north cloudy
with patchy rain. Tomorrow sees a band of widespread rain working from the south, reaching Buller from evening. Clearing
from the south early Thursday then mainly fine on Friday. Saturday sees a mix of cloudy and fine periods with drizzle
about the fiords.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Showers retreating to the south coast today and inland becoming fine. A period of widespread rain
tomorrow with snow to the ranges then a late clearance inland later. Coastal showers persisting Thursday, inland fine
and frosty. From Friday onwards cloudy about the south coast with a few light showers, inland fine, frosty weather
continuing.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few light showers turning to rain tomorrow night then breaking to showers again early on Thursday
with cold southwesterlies. Generally cloudy after that, showers few and far between from early Saturday, southwest winds
continuing.
