The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Friday.
Situation: A southwest flow covers the country. A high in the Tasman Sea is pushing a ridge onto the South Island. The
ridge then weakens and a front crosses the country tomorrow. A second front moves onto the lower South Island on
Wednesday. On Thursday a low develops over the Chatham Islands and a southerly airstream develops over the North Island
as a high moves onto the South Island. On Friday the low moves east and the high dominates the country.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, WAITOMO and TAUMARANUI: A mix of cloud and fine breaks today with a few light showers
about the west coast. Fine at first tomorrow then a few showers develop after dark. Becoming fine on Wednesday then
showers again Thursday. Remaining showers clearing on Friday and becoming
mainly fine.
COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Mainly fine today and tomorrow. A few early showers clearing on
Wednesday. Showery on Thursday then becoming fine on Friday.
TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Remaining showers clearing and becoming fine today. A few cloudy periods
tomorrow with late showers. Mainly fine on Wednesday then showers returning on Thursday. Becoming fine on Friday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Showers clearing from the south today. Mainly fine tomorrow although late showers
likely in Wairarapa. A few coastal showers clearing early Wednesday and becoming fine. A period of rain on Thursday with
cool southerlies. Showers clearing on Friday
WELLINGTON: Remaining showers clearing today. Mainly fine at first tomorrow but showers and southerlies developing after
dark. Mainly fine Wednesday then a period of rain followed by showers on Thursday with cool southerly winds. Becoming
fine on Friday.
NELSON: Fine today and most of tomorrow. A few late showers developing late Tuesday. Mainly fine Wednesday but a few
showers return on Thursday. Fine on Friday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: A few showers about the Kaikoura Coast clearing today. Fine elsewhere. Fine at first
tomorrow but brief showers and southwesterlies spread north during the afternoon. Mainly fine on Wednesday then showers
developing from evening. Showers retreat to the Kaikoura Coast on Thursday and becoming fine everywhere on Friday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Showers developing about Fiordland today but mainly fine further north. A period of rain
spreads north tomorrow then breaking to showers from the south. Another period of rain spreads north on Wednesday then
becoming fine on Thursday and remaining fine on Friday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mostly fine today but for a few cloudy periods near the coast. Cloud increasing about the south
coast this evening. Showers and southwesterlies spread north tomorrow morning then clearing inland later. Another
southwest change with showers spreads north on Wednesday. Fine inland Thursday and Friday but cloud and a few light
showers remain about the coast.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showery today and tomorrow. A mix of cloud and fine breaks on Wednesday. Showers returning on Thursday
and remaining showery on Friday.
