The All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The Situation: A trough of low pressure is expected to cross
central and northern places today. A ridge of high pressure
is spreading onto the lower South Island.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA and BAY of
PLENTY/ROTORUA: A mix of showers and fine periods. Westerlies
turning southwest later.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI
and MANAWATU: Showery in most places this morning. From afternoon
long fine periods developing about Manawatu and Wanganui. After
dark fine breaks increasing further north. South to southwest
winds becoming general.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Cool cloudy weather with
showers. Southerly winds about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay working
further north this morning.
WELLINGTON: Rain easing to showers this morning. A few fine
periods developing also. Southerly winds strengthening from
afternoon.
NELSON: Remaining showers clearing this morning and becoming fine.
Light winds.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Fine weather about Fiordland and
southern Westland spreading further north this afternoon.
Southwest breezes.
MARLBOROUGH: Cloudy with rain areas becoming confined to coastal
places this afternoon. Southerly winds.
CANTERBURY: Mostly fine about south Canterbury. Elsewhere cloud
breaking inland but from banks Peninsula northward coastal
showers persisting for much of the day. South to southwest
winds.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Skies becoming mainly fine inland but cloud
lingering in coastal places with a few light showers possible
this morning. Light winds inland, west to southwest winds
elsewhere.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A dull wet day ahead. Strong northerlies
giving way to gusty southwesterlies from evening.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Over the North Island showers gradually
clearing from the east coast and about Wellington, elsewhere
mainly fine. Cloud increasing along the South Island west coast
with late rain south of the glaciers, rain also spreading into
Southland after dark. Most other South Island areas should be
mainly fine. At the Chathams showery.
