PRESS RELEASE (for immediate publication)
Following the United Kingdom’s notification to withdraw from the European Union, CANZUK International will be submitting proposals to the UK government which will see free trade and free movement for citizens implemented between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom (the CANZUK countries).
The proposals emphasise the significant support for free movement between these countries received from senior politicians and diplomats, including former Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, Boris Johnson, Canadian Member of Parliament, Erin O’Toole and New Zealand’s ACT Party leader, David Seymour.
CANZUK International’s online petition has received over 180,000 signatures, recommending:
• Citizens of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom be granted free mobility rights to live, work and study in each others’ countries;
• The Trans-Tasman Travel Agreement (between Australia and New Zealand) be utilised as a free movement model and amended to include Canada and the United Kingdom;
• The establishment of a comprehensive multilateral free trade agreement between the CANZUK countries, removing customs barriers and limitations to commerce; and
• Greater cooperation among the CANZUK countries with respect to foreign policy, defence and intelligence, complimenting the work of the Five Eyes Intelligence Alliance, NATO and the United Nations Security Council.
