APEC Human Resources Development Ministers to meet in Ha Noi

Ha Noi, Viet Nam, 5 September 2014 – APEC Human Resources Development Ministers will meet on Saturday, 6 September in Hanoi under the theme, “Promoting quality employment and strengthening people-to-people connectivity through human resources development.”
The meeting will be chaired by Viet Nam Minister of Planning and Investment, Bui Quang Vinh. At the opening session, Viet Nam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will deliver remarks. APEC Ministers will visit Viet Nam President Truong Tan Sang after the meeting.
Ministers will focus on three sub-themes: (1) supporting inclusive and sustainable growth, and addressing the social dimensions of globalization; (2) enhancing human resource quality to meet supply chain demands; and (3) facilitating the mobility of labour and skills development.
After a report from APEC Human Resources Development Working Group Co-Chair, Dr Young-Hwan Kim, Ministers will engage in a candid discussion about the related opportunities and challenges each face in their respective economy.
Reports by the APEC Business Advisory Council, ASEAN Secretariat and the International Labour Organization will be delivered to Ministers.
A news conference chaired by Minister Bui Quang Vinh and with participation by Ministers and APEC Secretariat Executive Director Dr Alan Bollard will follow the conclusion of the meeting.
A high-level working group is meeting on Friday to prepare for the Ministerial Meeting. In addition, the APEC Education and Vocational Training Exhibition will be held alongside the Ministerial Meeting on 5-7 September.
Viet Nam will be the host economy for APEC in 2017.
