Sudan: ICRC Facilitates Handover Of Released Soldiers

Geneva/Khartoum (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has facilitated the handover to government authorities of 63 members of the Sudanese Armed Forces who were released by the Sudan Liberation Army-Minni Minnawi (SLA-MM) this week. The handover to the authorities took place in Al Fashir, North Darfur.

Both the SLA-MM and the Sudanese authorities requested that the ICRC assist in this transfer in its capacity as a neutral intermediary.

The ICRC stands ready to provide support for any similar operation in the future should the parties request it to do so.

The ICRC has been working in Darfur since 2003, where it provides assistance for victims of the armed conflict and other situations of violence.
