DEFENCE MEDIA RELEASE
An improvised explosive device (IED) has been used to target a dismounted patrol from the Mentoring and Reconstruction
Task Force (MRTF-2) in southern Afghanistan on Monday, 2 November.
The device wounded two Australian soldiers and an Afghan National Army soldier. The patrol also came under small arms
gun fire after the IED detonated.
Immediate first aid was provided to the wounded soldiers on the ground before they were aero-medically evacuated to an
International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) medical facility at Tarin Kowt.
The soldiers suffered non-life threatening wounds and are in a stable condition.
Due to medical-in-confidence matters and ongoing operations, additional information will not be provided.
The Australian soldiers’ immediate family have been informed.
This incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by road-side bombs which indiscriminately target security forces and
the Afghan population.
