Human resources development important - Fono
The Acting Prime Minister says capacity in terms of human resources and institution building is very important in the efforts to develop Solomon Islands.
Mr Fred Fono made the statement while addressing a two-week long workshop for Constituency Development Officers which got underway in Honiara today.
He says it is important that the Constituency Development Officers and other agents being placed amongst the rural people for development purposes must be adequately equipped with skills and the knowhow of what the development programmes/projects are suitable for each of the 50 Constituencies.
Mr Fono says the Constituency Development Officers under his Ministry of Rural Development have a huge responsibility to carry out.
He says the workshop is an avenue that can be used to train the CDOs to equip them with certain key areas in planning the development of rural areas.
But Mr Fono says there is a lot that needs to be coordinated when it comes to addressing the development needs especially when the country features diversities that cut across borders.
He told the CDOs to make full use of the workshop by sharing information with resource persons and the ministry staff so they can be better equipped with manpower skills, knowledge and information so they can be able to determine how the country can advance into the future.
