UNICEF Announces Nominees For Children’s Day Broadcasting Award

The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) today announced its nominees for the annual International Children’s Day of
Broadcasting (ICDB) award, presented to television and radio broadcasters for outstanding commitment to the Day.
The nominees represent the best work produced in 2007 for the Day, as well as a dedication to promoting youth
participation in the media.
The winner will be announced at a November ceremony in New York, hosted by celebrity chef and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
Marcus Samuelsson at his restaurant Riingo.
“These visionary broadcasters have demonstrated creativity in their programming as concrete evidence of their commitment
to getting young people’s voices heard,” said Stephen Cassidy, Chief of UNICEF’s Internet, Broadcast and Image Section.
“We are happy to see the increase in radio broadcasters this year, as we strive to recognize the audio medium with the
same respect television has received, especially given the importance of radio in many of the world’s developing
countries,” he added.
The Day, launched in 1991, is set aside each year to celebrate children’s broadcasting, encourage broadcasters to create
awareness of children’s issues and spur young people to get involved in television and radio broadcasting.
This year’s nominees, who each won a regional competition and will go on to compete for global honours, come from
Angola, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Germany, Ghana, Iran, Nepal, Nigeria, Peru and the United Arab Emirates.
In 2007 the ICDB Award went to National Broadcasting of Thailand and Radio Mozambique.
