SI to Host Pacific Public Service Commissioners Conference
Solomon Islands will host the Seventh Pacific Public Service Commissioners Conference next year.
The Ministry of Public Service announced this today following a positive response to a bid by a four-member delegation that took part in the Sixth Pacific Public Service Commissioners Conference in Rarotonga, Cook Islands September 1st to the 3rd.
A Ministry statement says the Seventh Pacific Public Service Commissioners Conference will be held in September 2009, but the exact dates will not be known for sometime.
The statement says the Minister of Public Service, Milner Tozaka welcomes the successful bid to host the conference, adding it will be a great opportunity for Solomon Islands to share challenges with other Pacific neighbours.
Mr Tozaka says the conference will aim at ensuring a better public service not only in the country but also in the region.
Meanwhile, the statement says the Rarotonga Pacific Public Service Commissioners Conference developed joint targets and mission for 2009 which reinforce the on-going work programs being undertaken by the Solomon Islands Public Service.
The work programs are in line with the policies of the Coalition for National Unity and Rural Advancement Government.
The participants shared different challenges but they all believed the common objective is to ensure a cost effective public service delivery.
In addition, they agreed the member countries must strive to enhance networking, cooperation and better human resources administration to ascertain transparency and integrity.
The statement says the Ministry of Public Service emphasises collaboration with line ministries and stakeholders, adding it would work towards better cooperation and understanding with unions to ensure a work environment that is conducive to a better public service delivery.
