UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband On Radovan Karadzic's Arrest
The Foreign Secretary David Miliband took part in an interview on BBC News on Tuesday 22 July adding comment to Radovan Karadzic arrest by Serbian authorities:
KARADZIC ARREST: FOREIGN SECRETARY COMMENTS (22/07/2008)
Presenter: Well there's been more reaction. Arriving in Brussels for talks with fellow EU Foreign Ministers the Foreign Secretary David Miliband described the arrest of Karadzic as a very significant development.
David Miliband: The arrest of Radovan Karadzic is, I think, a very significant step for the whole of the Western Balkans and for Serbia's relations with the international community. I think that justice for the victims of the terrible atrocities in the 1990s requires the sort of cooperation between the Serbian Government and the International Criminal Tribunal that's been established, that is now in the offing.
I want to congratulate the Serbian Government on the operation that took place yesterday and look forward to their cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal. We have always believed that stability in the Western Balkans depends on resolving the Kosovan part of the former Yugoslav jigsaw. But also ensuring that those who did suffer in the 1990s or at least their relatives get justice and I think that yesterday's announcement is very, very significant in that respect.
We, obviously, look forward to further progress and further cooperation in the, in the weeks and months ahead.
Presenter: The Foreign Secretary giving his reaction there.
