Productive meeting with Forum Ministers' Group, says PM
The Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqeq Bainimarama had very productive meetings with the visiting Pacific Island Forum Foreign Ministers" Ministerial Contact Group last week.
He revealed this at special function to celebrate the Bank of Baroda Centennial operations in Fiji and around the world.
"Earlier this week, we had a very productive meeting with the Pacific Island Forum Foreign Ministers" Ministerial Contact Group," he said
"I would like to reassure you all that the Interim Government is seriously and fully committed to the restoration of genuine Parliamentary democracy in Fiji through a General Election as soon as practicably possible."
Commodore Bainimarama said he was aware of current obstacles and associated problems faced by the private sector.
"I am aware that there are several immediate and medium-term problems that worry our people and in particular, our private sector. I can assure you that they worry us too and we are focused on addressing them," he said.
"The Government is fully alive to the challenge and has taken several steps to cushion the effects of the recent hike in food and fuel prices. I am confident that we will be able to moderate the price rise. But, we cannot ignore the fact that there are external factors contributing to this, over which we do not have much control.
Commodore Bainimarama encouraged the Bank of Baroda to continue to assist in the development of our country so that we can Build a Better Fiji for All.
"Once again, it has been a pleasure to be amongst you all this evening and on behalf of the Government and the people of Fiji, I would like to wish the Bank of Baroda a happy centennial celebrations and success in the years to come. "
