Fiji: Children's education must remain a priority
The education of children must remain a priority and should not be affected by sudden decisions made by the management committees of schools.
This was a statement made by the Minister for Education, Mr Filipe Bole in light of Police intervening to prevent a dispute from occurring at Bainivalu Primary School.
Mr Bole reiterated that committee members need to be made aware of the responsibilities and duties they hold.
"To function effectively as possible, committee members need to understand the purpose of the school management committee, for this reason the children and the teachers should not have been drawn into the problem.
"In the case of Bainivalu Primary School the problem is for the school management to resolve, the management is aware of the Ministry's requirements and should comply," the Minister said.
However the Minister highlighted that school managements should take into account the sacrifices made by parents to ensure that their children attend school.
"Both the management and the ministry are duty bound to allow the process of inquiry with evidence to progress and act accordingly to what is legally binding. In the meantime, for the sake of the children, the parents and the community, goodwill must be allowed to prevail and honest dialogue should be conducted,"Mr Bole said.
