New initiative clarifies company registry problems
The Registry of Companies has implemented a new initiative that will benefit not only Government but also its users.
Called Practice Direction, the new method will solve problems many customers face in being misled by company registrations.
Administrator General, Mr Eliesa Tuiloma says Practice Direction explicitly states the choice of words that could be registered as company names and those which are not.
"Under Section 21 of the Companies Act (Cap 247); no name shall be registrable as a company name which in the opinion of the Registrar is undesirable," Mr Tuiloma said.
He added past statistics showed there were no directions in place to protect the rights in the Registry of Companies Office .
The Practice Direction is expected to bring about remarkable changes in the Companies Registry as this will save a lot of time for those who are misled and unaware of the words that are not registrable.
The Registry of Companies is located at the Ministry of Justice.
