British PM lends support to safe streets campaign
Sport can be a powerful diversion away from street crime, the PM said today as he leant his support to Choice FM's Peace on the Streets campaign.
Speaking on a visit to South London, Mr Brown said that it is important that young people have the facilities to do the kind of things that they want to do.
"That's why we need more youth centres, more youth facilities and more activities that are available for young people", he said.
The upcoming London Olympics provides a perfect opportunity to give sporting opportunities to young people, he added.
Midnight football and basketball is already happening in many cities in the UK. Peace on the Streets is Choice FM's own campaign against gun and knife crime and supports sports activities with the aim of making Britain's streets a safer place.
