PM meets Fukuda at G8
Monday 1:08 pm (Local Time) - Gordon Brown has arrived at a very misty New Chitose airport taken an hour’s drive in the wet to reach the G8 Summit
in Hokkaido.
The PM began with a bilateral meeting with Japanese PM Yasuo Fukuda high up in the WIndsor Hotel. A Downing Street
spokesman said the discussion was very much focused on the main themes of the summit agenda - oil and food prices,
climate change and development.
Following the meeting the Japanese Prime Minister greeted the EU Commission President Jose Manual Barroso and the G8
leaders in turn in the vast lobby of the hotel with a pack of photographers snapping away.
After the G8 premiers had passed through a number of other leaders were greeted, mainly from Africa, including UN
General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and African Union head Jakaya Kikwete.
