Military Role Under Constitution Still Intact, Says PM
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said the role of the military is still intact under constitution and that is
to safeguard the security and stability of the Nation. He made the comments this morning 24/6 at the Infantry Day Parade
held at Albert park.

Speaking in Fijian at a full military parade, Commodore Bainimarama reminded soldiers of their duties to the nation and
the people of Fiji and not to be easily influenced by events or comments as stated by politicians.
"We (the Military) have reached a stage today where it has become crucial for us to wisely and carefully consider our
role so that we are not easily misled by those who are opposing to the Building of a Better Fiji for all for our future
generations," he said in Fijian.
"These opponents are using every opportunity to weaken us and I urge us all to be wary of them so that we are not easily
swayed by them.
Commodore Bainimarama said politicians were trying to decide on the country going to the Poll with some even pushing for
elections as early as March 2009.
"But you might have also known and heard that many mechanism within the election systems need to be reformed before we
can have elections," he said.
"I would to remind us all as military officers of the intentions of the 'clean up campaign' in 5th December 2006. It is
indeed very crucial for each and every one of us to be aware and alert of the daily events occurring in our country.
Commodore Bainimarama urged the military officers to assist in the clean up campaign around the country in villages by
properly informing the people of the military's intentions and also to assist the Public Servants who are working for
the same cause.
