Ceasefire in Gaza
Today the Foreign Secretary David Miliband said;
"Reports of a ceasefire in Gaza are very welcome for a region that has seen so much conflict in recent months. The Egyptians have done well to make this happen.
"The ceasefire comes after a period in which the humanitarian situation in Gaza has significantly deteriorated and Israelis in southern Israel have faced an almost daily barrage of rockets. A ceasefire would be an important first step to improve the daily lives of ordinary people on both sides.
"We hope that the militant groups now fulfil their commitment to stop firing rockets into Israel, and that Israel will ease restrictions on Gaza as it has pledged, ensuring that important humanitarian aid and supplies can get through.
"The UK remains committed to helping Israel and the Palestinian Authority move towards agreement on a just and lasting peace."
