The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh to visit Inner and Middle Temple, 24 June 2008
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend a 400th Anniversary Commemorative Service in Temple Church for the
rededication of the Royal Charter granted to the Inner and Middle Temple in 1608 by King James I. The Service is part of
a year-long Festival to mark the Anniversary.
On arrival, Her Majesty, Patron of the 2008 Temple Festival, accompanied by His Royal Highness, will be greeted by the
Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Anthony May (Master Treasurer, Inner Temple) and Mr. Michael Blair QC (Treasurer, Middle Temple).
Outside Temple Church The Queen and The Duke will meet members of the Service procession, including the Archbishop of
Canterbury, the Bishop of London and the Reverend Hugh Mead (Reader, Temple Church).
During the Service of Commemoration, the rededication of the 1608 Charter will take place.
After the Service Her Majesty will sign a 'Record of Visit' certificate to mark the occasion. The Royal party will then
meet organisers and participants of the Temple Festival in the Inner Temple Bench Apartments.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will afterwards join a Reception of 1200 Barristers and employees of the two Temples
in the Inner Temple Gardens.

The 2008 Temple Festival is a year-long programme of events to commemorate the 400th anniversary of King James I
granting the land and buildings in the Temple by Royal Charter to the two Inns of Court: the Inner Temple and the Middle
Temple.
