A Credible Budget, Says PM
The Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua said the 2008 Budget is a credible budget, when moving the Sine Die motion in
Parliament this week to end the current sitting of Parliament.
He said it was credible because it was done in the context of Solomon Islands, taking into account the social and
economic need development aspirations of our people.
Also he said it was credible because it is based on the six priority areas of the CNURA government. Also it focuses on
improving the lives of the people, in particular our rural population.
He said the genuine intention and hope for the 2008 Budget was to help and benefit the rural people.
Dr Sikua said the 2008 recurrent budget will enable the government to continue to provide and maintain essential service
to our people.
Also it will enable the government to create further development opportunities.
He said the focus on the rural area is not new, and successive government have adopted polices strategies targeting
rural development.
However, what is new was the CNURA government's firm commitment to produce tangible results and move away from the
rhetoric of the past years.
Also the CNURA government was firmly committed to do its best to help Solomon Islanders in realizing their development
aspirations, he said.
He also assured the Solomon Islanders of the government's intention to continue to work with all stakeholders including
the private sector and the development partners as we strive to develop the country.
The development partners have contributed and support much towards the 2008 Budget, the said.
Dr Sikua said Solomon Islands has recently experience ethnic turmoil and the continuing efforts to rebuild the country
will continue to need the support and cooperation of our development partners.
