Migiro travels to Thailand for regional meeting to spur development
15 February 2008 - Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro heads to Thailand this weekend to chair the latest regional coordination
meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) as part of her efforts to
promote development worldwide.
While in Bangkok, Ms. Migiro is also scheduled to meet Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Patama, as well as with
representatives of some of ESCAP's 53 Member States, UN spokesperson Marie Okabe told reporters today.
The Deputy Secretary-General also plans to meet with UN staff based in Bangkok before she returns to UN Headquarters in
New York on Wednesday.
One of Ms. Migiro's key responsibilities since assuming her post last year is to strengthen the UN's role as a centre
for development assistance and policy.
