Taiwan Funds Rennel And Bellona Government Office
The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) today released more than SBD$1 million to fund a new government office and a community service vehicle for Rennell and Bellona Province.
ROC Ambassador George Chan officially announced the million dollar project during a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua this morning.
Mr Chan said Taiwan is pleased to assist Solomon Islands, particularly small and remote provinces like Rennell and Bellona.
The Province's headquarter; Tingoa, in West Rennell has been operating on very limited infrastructure and facilities since becoming a province in 1993.
The assistance is expected to improve facilities to boost administrative work in the province.
Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua acknowledged the assistance saying Taiwan's continued assistance to Solomon Islands highlights the warm and strong relations between the two countries.
He said the assistance will increase the province's professional capacity as the National Government's agent to deliver services to the local people.
