Suicide Car Bombing in Iraq Kills 7
Iraqi police say a suicide car bomb has exploded in the northern city of Baiji, killing at least seven people and
wounding 13 others. Police say several homes were damaged in the blast Saturday in a residential area of the city
located about 250-kilometers north of Baghdad.
Baiji has the country's largest oil refinery and is also a key point for crude oil being exported out of Iraq.
On Friday, two separate bombings in the volatile Diyala province -- also north of Baghdad -- killed 26 people and
wounded about 30 others. One of the attacks was carried out by a female suicide bomber.
The U.S. military says militant attacks in the north are increasingly targeted at Sunni groups that cooperate with U.S.
and Iraqi forces in the fight against al-Qaida in Iraq terrorists.
An Iraqi citizen, Ahmed Jamil Hussein, said Friday there has been a reaction against the militants because al-Qaida has
destroyed homes and forced people to leave.
In other news, the U.N. refugee agency - UNHCR - says many parts of Iraq are still too dangerous for thousands of Iraqis
living abroad to return home. The agency warned that there is a lack of access to safety and legal services, as well as
drinking water, sanitation, food and adequate shelter.
