Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Commemorate International Human Rights Day
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will commemorate the 59th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with remarks at the 2007 Human Rights Day Awards Ceremony Monday, December 10, at 3:40 p.m. in the Treaty Room of the Department of State.
Secretary Rice will also present two awards. The Freedom Defenders Award will be given to a non-governmental organization that has shown exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for human rights and democracy in the face of government repression. The Diplomacy for Freedom Award will be given to a U.S. Chief of Mission who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to promoting democracy and defending human rights in his or her host country.
The Ceremony will be pool press coverage for cameras and open for writers and stills.
Access time for writers and stills: 3:15 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance
Press who plan to attend this event should arrive at the 23rd Street entrance and must present either (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
