UK Economic stability "will be maintained" - Brown
The Prime Minister has said that everything "which can be done, will be done" to maintain the stability of the economy.
Speaking in Birmingham earlier today, Mr Brown said the strength of the British economy meant the Government was able to guarantee the savings of Northern Rock investors.
He added that the UK could deal with the financial problems that have been witnessed in America and Europe, and are now appearing in the UK with Northern Rock.
"We are an economy that has taken the measures that have been necessary to keep a stable economy so inflation is coming down", he said.
"And at the same time we've put in place regulatory measures that make sure that when incidents like this happen they're properly dealt with.
"I want to assure people of is everything that can be done will be done to maintain and is being done to maintain the stability of the economy."
