Abductions and killings of children in Haiti denounced by UNICEF
Condemning a recent spate of kidnappings and assassinations carried out against children in Haiti, the United Nations
Children's Fund (UNICEF) has called for action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The agency cited local authorities who reported at least 11 kidnappings of children in November alone.
According to UNICEF, the mutilated body of a seven-year-old boy was found two weeks after he was kidnapped in the city
of Cabaret, north of Port-au-Prince. His family had been unable to pay the ransom of nearly $700.
The agency called on the Haitian authorities to do everything to ensure the protection of children and bring the
perpetrators to justice.
