Minister Oti Congratulates New Australian PM
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, External Trade and Immigration, Mr Patterson Oti has congratulated Australia's new Prime Minister, Mr Kevin Rudd following his election victory.
Mr Oti told Mr Rudd in a congratulatory letter that his successful election to the post of Prime Minister demonstrated the trust and confidence that the people of Australia had in him and his Labour Party.
He said he was confident that under the leadership of Mr Rudd, Solomon Islands and Australia could move forward in normalizing their bilateral relationship.
"I trust that your government will have a better understanding and appreciation of the development challenges facing small Island countries in our region including Solomon Islands.
"In this connection, I look forward to working closely with my counterpart to ensure our bilateral relations including trade and development cooperation are enhanced for the mutual benefit our two countries and people," Mr Oti said.
