PM Sogavare Congratulates New Australian Counterpart
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has conveyed Solomon Islands congratulations to Australia's new Prime Minister, Honourable Kevin Rudd upon his election victory to the top political post.
Mr Sogavare told Mr Rudd in a congratulatory letter that his election victory reflected the trust and confidence the people of Australia had in him and his Labour Party.
"Congratulations on your well deserved victory and I wish you every success as your assume leadership of your great country and people," Prime Minister Sogavare said.
He said the Solomon Islands government was optimistic to normalize its relationship with Canberra under the leadership of Mr Rudd.
"Honourable Prime Minister as you are well aware the relations between our two countries have not been as warm and cordial as it should be under the leadership of your predecessor.
"In this regard my government is confident of working closely with your government towards the normalization of our bilateral and diplomatic relations.
"I trust that with the spirit of mutual respect, understanding and meaningful partnership our two governments will move forward in strengthening our bilateral ties and development cooperations." Prime Minister Sogavare said.
