European Officials Say Iran Postpones European Nuclear Meeting
European officials say Iran has postponed a meeting about its nuclear program due to an illness of the Iranian negotiator.
Iranian deputy nuclear negotiator Javad Vaeedi was to meet Wednesday in Vienna with a European Union official to pave the way for a possible meeting between Iran and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
In other developments, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in a letter to diplomats around the world that his country has resolved outstanding issues with the International Atomic Energy Agency over its nuclear program.
The official news agency, IRNA, quotes Mottaki as saying Iran's nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but that certain states are insisting on "illegal and illegitimate procedures" to deal with Iran.
The United States is seeking a third round of United Nations sanctions against Iran for its controversial nuclear activities. China today called on Iran to meet U.N. demands regarding its nuclear program.
The United States and other world powers accuse Iran of seeking a nuclear weapon -- a charge Tehran denies.
In a report last week, the IAEA said that Iran has made substantial progress in disclosing details of its past nuclear activities, but that Tehran continues to defy U.N. Security Council demands to stop uranium enrichment.
