Sergeant Lyddiard's Family Enroute To NATO Hospital
Sergeant Michael Lyddiard's wife and parents are currently flying to Germany to join him as he undergoes further specialist treatment in a NATO hospital.
Sergeant Lyddiard was flown to Germany overnight onboard a specially configured aero-medical flight and is now undergoing further specialist treatment.
An ADF medical specialist preceded Sergeant Lyddiard's arrival in Germany to ensure that reception arrangements were finalised.
Defence Spokesman Brigadier Andrew Nikolic said the NATO facility in Germany offered the very best in trauma care.
"The NATO hospital is a world-class facility with some of the most experienced trauma-care specialists in the world," Brigadier Nikolic said.
"Their collective experience in treating battlefield injuries, particularly those resulting from blast and fragmentation effects, means Sergeant Lyddiard is receiving the best possible care available."
Specialists will continue to assess Sergeant Lyddiard's condition and further medical management needs. Included in this assessment will be a decision on when it may be possible for Sergeant Lyddiard to return to Australia.
Sergeant Lyddiard's family are being assisted by a Defence Community Organisation liaison officer during their stay in Germany.
