SUVA (FT Online/Pacific Media Watch) - Fiji's military government has ordered immediate deportation of Fiji Daily Post newspaper editor-in-chief, Australian expatriate Dr Robert Wolfgramm.
Dr Wolfgramm, who has a Fiji work permit, is a former lecturer at Australia's Monash University and has been in the country working for the newspaper for 10 months.
He has been an Australian citizen since 1989.
He was in shock yesterday after his passport was seized by soldiers outside the newspaper's Suva office.
The newspaper head's deportation followed a meeting earlier in the day when staff were warned to tone down the content of images and anti-military sentiment it had been publishing on the crisis.
Dr Wolfgramm, acting general manager Apenisa Mataitoga and news editor Mithleshni Gurdayal were taken up shortly after the initial meeting at Queen Elizabeth Barracks.
Despite the development, the editor was adamant that the newspaper would continue to publish.
