New Caledonia strike talks on Filipino expulsion demand
The CSTNC union strike in New Caledonia is in its twelfth day as top level talks are planned to discuss once again key demands.
The union wants Filipino workers employed in the Goro Nickel mining project to be sent home, but the territory’s president has ruled that out.
Since the end of last week, the strike has mainly affected the territory’s mining sector.
Unionists are still blocking the access to the SLN nickel plant in Noumea and only a few workers are being allowed to get through.
They are also blocking access to some mines in the north.
The union has already held talks with the nickel companies and the government, but did not find an agreement.
