New Caledonian USTKE union not taking action against Goro Nickel this week
The New Caledonian USTKE union says it will not take action against the Goro Nickel company this week.
The company has hired some qualified Filipino workers who will help to construct the two-billion US dollar plant.
The union’s representative, Pierre Chauvat, said earlier it would demonstrate against Goro hiring Filipino workers doing
other jobs than previously agreed to as they were working as cooks and truck drivers.
But Mr Chauvat says the union will not to take action against Goro Nickel this week, although it is still opposed to the
Filipinos doing these jobs.
Goro Nickel confirmed earlier that some Filipinos were driving trucks because the company had difficulties finding
locals for the job.
