Alleged Fiji coup funders to be charged soon
Fiji’s police commissioner says he is confident that some financiers of the May 2000 coup will be charged in the not too
distant future.
Andrew Hughes has told Radio Legend that while investigations continue in relation to the two businessmen who were
questioned earlier, they are also looking at others who were involved in the funding of the coup.
Mr Hughes says police will not give up and will ensure that everyone involved in the takeover of parliament is brought
to justice.
He says the financing of the coup has always been a challenge for the police because of the secrecy that has surrounded
so many of the deals.
But Mr Hughes says police are now engaging with the office of the director of public prosecutions and it won’t be too
long before some other files will be before the courts.
