Greens oppose US bases in Australia
The Australian Greens say there should be no foreign bases on Australian soil.
"We oppose the establishment of the American military bases in northern Australia. We are a proud, independent country with a great interest in maintaining good relations throughout the Asia-Pacific region. We would also vigorously oppose Chinese or Indian bases here," Senator Brown said.
"Australia has a special relationship with America, but we have no bases on continental USA and nor should we entertain the Bush administration setting up bases here. It is contrary to Australia's national interests," Senator Brown said.
