Task Group Vehicle Damaged In IED Incident
A Special Forces Task Group (SFTG) patrol vehicle was badly damaged yesterday when it ran over a roadside improvised explosive device in Southern Afghanistan.
Chief of the Defence Force Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston said that there were no serious casualties but one member suffered minor shrapnel scratches.
"I am pleased to say that the member is well and was able to continue with his duties.
"I firmly believe that the professionalism of the SFTG, the significant force protection measures in place to ensure the safety of Australian soldiers, and the standard of our equipment, prevented casualties in this incident.
"The vehicle was recovered by an Australian Chinook helicopter and will be returned to Australia in due course," Air Chief Marshal Houston said.
