Arson attack at New Caledonia’s Goro Nickel site
There has been another arson attack at the Goro Nickel site in New Caledonia’s south.
The company says a small group of individuals destroyed about 50 meters of pipes supplying water to the site.
The attack happened at night and despite a police presence to ensure the site’s safety.
Work resumed at the site two weeks ago after activists of the Kanak Rheebu Nuu group destroyed 10 million US dollars worth of vehicles and installations.
The vandalism forced Goro Nickel to suspend work for three weeks.
Yesterday, a ferry was prevented from docking in the Ile of Pines by a crowd opposed to the Goro project’s environmental impact.
