Defence Supports AusAID Mission To Philippines
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will support the AusAID-led expert mission to assess damage caused by a mudslide on the Philippine island of Leyte on Friday, 17 February.
I am very pleased to announce an ADF Liaison Officer will assist the AusAID-led mission leaving for the Philippines tomorrow.
Colonel Chris Burns, who is Australia’s Defence attaché to the Philippines and Micronesia, will assist the AusAID team.
Colonel Burns will provide essential links between AusAID and the Philippines Military who are leading the disaster relief effort.
Following from the ADF’s assistance with the Tsunami recovery in Aceh in 2005 and more recently with assistance in Pakistan, Defence is well placed to provide liaison and advisory skills for humanitarian missions such as this.
