Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, stability and security are key – UN official
Continuing his official visit to Lebanon today, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political affairs emphasized the world body’s desire and support for the country’s sovereignty, independence, stability and security.
These points were stressed as Ibrahim Gambari held separate meetings with senior Lebanese officials and leaders of the country's religious communities.
Following his talks with Lebanon’s Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Elias Murr, Mr. Gambari told reporters they had discussed cooperation by the Lebanese Government with the UN on both the investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and the implementation of other UN resolutions on Lebanon, particularly Resolution 1614, which calls for the extension of government control throughout the country.
