Pakistan looks forward to have better ties with India: Rashid
KHATMANDU, (Nepal) Aug 29 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday said
that Pakistan looks forward to have better relations with India. Addressing the Pakistani community here, he said,
Pakistan is sincere in improving relations with India but this objective could be only achieved if India takes practical
steps in this direction. "We want settlement of all the issues including the Kashmir dispute", he said. He said the
discussions between both the countries could be held in the light of the UN resolutions on Kashmir and if India has some
other proposal that should have been put forward .
Referring to the policies adopted by Pakistan in the aftermath of 9/11 incidents, he said, these proved successful to
help save the world from terrorism. "Effective policies adopted by President General Pervez Musharraf helped save the
world from terrorism", he said. He said," we are in the front line in the drive against terrorism. The causes of this
menace needs to be rooted out." Commenting on the on-going process of registration of Madaris, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said,
this step will help maintain record and exact data about their students.
He said that hardly any Madrissah was involved in unwanted activity and asked ulema to play their role and point out if
there is any such element in their fold. He said the government has been pursuing liberal policies towards the media and
in the light of these policies 37 TV channels have been granted permission while other 15 are already in operation. He
said, the government had issued licenses to 80 FM Radio Stations in the private sector besides according permission for
setting up of 3 Direct to Home channels.
