PM urges Muslim Ummah to stand united against terrorism
ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Thursday said the Muslim Ummah must stand united to fight the scourge of global terrorism. Talking to the outgoing Ambassador of Bosnia Avdo Abdullah Hodzic here at the PM House, the Prime Minister said the misperceptions against Islam need to be removed. He said in this regard the Organisation of Islamic Conference needs to be made more effective and vibrant. He said Islam was a religion of tolerance, interfaith harmony and abhors violence, extremism and sectarianism. Rejecting the theory of clash of civilizations, he said Islam can adapt to the changing times, without compromising on its basic tenets.
The Prime Minister referred to the concept of Enlightened Moderation, which he added was aimed at removing any misperceptions against Islam. He said Bosnia being a Muslim country in Europe can do a lot by projecting the true image of Islam. The Bosnian ambassador was appreciative of the government for waiving the US 200 million dollars export credit, the role of Pakistan by sending in a substantial number of troops for UN peacekeeping and the hospitality extended to him during his stay.
