The concern on serious attacked taking place
Two political cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were shot and killed by suspected Sri Lanka Army
(SLA) backing paramilitary, who were riding in a blue colour van Wednesday around 7:30 a.m.
The incident took place at Kanjirankuda junction on Akkaraipattu-Pottuvil Main Road, around 300 meters away from the
Special Task Force (STF) base in Kanjirankuda, which is located 3 km south of Thirukkovil in Amparai.
Two of the gunmen, wearing military fatigues, were seen entering the STF base by the residents of the area. The driver
of the van was in Police uniform, according to the residents.
Hands of the slain LTTE cadres were bound behind their backs. Their motorbike was taken by the attackers, sources said.
The shops in Thirukkovil area were closed and the traffic was off the roads following the killings.
Truce monitors from the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) rushed to the spot from Akkaraipattu.
The LTTE cadres, Mr. Ramesh (Vellayan), 32, from Sinnathoddam in Thirukkovil and Mr. Sujiventhan, 19, from Vinayagapuram
were traveling in a motorbike from LTTE controlled Pavattai to their political office located in Sri Lanka Army (SLA)
controlled Thambiluvil village, Amparai District Political Head of the LTTE, told to press.
Civilians angered by the killing attacked
A Civilian shot dead by Sri Lankan Army soldiers located at Innuvil Junction on KKS Road in Jaffna around 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, residents said. Mr. Shantharooban, who was being rushed to Jaffna Hospital, succumbed to gunshot wounds,
hospital sources said.
Another employee Mr. K. Thevathas was seriously injured by SLA. A Superindent and attacked by an angry protesting
residents, later succumbed to his wounds. Residents angered by the incident blocked the road and were seen throwing
stones at SLA vehicles approaching the site.
At least three armed soldiers of the Sri Lankan Army had come to the saloon prior to the shooting incident, residents
said.
Suddenly, civilians in the vicinity heard gunshots inside the saloon and saw the soldiers fleeing from the saloon to
their army camp with weapons, residents said.
Neighbours rushed inside the saloon and found Mr.Santharoopan and his aide lying with bleeding injuries. Immediately
they dispatched both to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. But Mr.Santharoopan died on the way to the hospital, residents
said.
The incident took place at Innuvil junction located on KKS Road, 4 km from Jaffna town. Mr. Shantharooban, a resident of
Kondavil in Jaffna, is from Trincomalee, according to the residents of the area.
Civilians angered by the killing attacked two army vehicles, which rushed to the site, with stones after the killing.
The sit-in-protest blocking the traffic on KKS road is continuing. Tension prevailed in the area, residents said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Army officials told local media that two SLA soldiers allegedly involved in the shooting incident
were being handed over to the Police for further inquiries.
Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) officials arrived at the site and inspected the place where the civilian was shot by
the Sri Lanka Army.
